ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Andrew Newton is a British artist renowned for his striking fusion of hyper-realism, abstraction, and digital-inspired aesthetics. Since earning a First Class BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 2008, he has exhibited widely across the UK and internationally, with collectors in the United States, Singapore, and Hong Kong. His work has received multiple accolades, including First Prize awards from the Royal Institute of Oil Painters.

Newton’s paintings explore the complexities of modern human experience. Through meticulous detail, fragmented portraiture, and atmospheric abstract spaces, he captures emotions such as anxiety, apathy, and the subtle tensions underlying daily life. His work often resembles digitally altered imagery, deliberately reflecting the influence of AI, filters, and the shifting boundaries between technology and reality. These visual strategies invite viewers to question perception, memory, and the authenticity of experience in a rapidly changing world.

Alongside his studio practice, Newton has taught painting and drawing since 2012, working with diverse learners including students with epilepsy, autism, and ADHD. Teaching continues to inform his artistic approach, enriching the emotional depth and sensitivity of his work while fostering meaningful connections with audiences of all backgrounds.

In recent years, Newton has incorporated geometric and symbolic elements, drawing inspiration from movements such as De Stijl. His current practice balances precision with expressive freedom, offering bold, unexpected interpretations of how we perceive, feel, and navigate an increasingly digital world. By blending technical mastery with conceptual innovation, his paintings encourage reflection on identity, technology, and the nature of human emotion.
